Emmaus Counseling
Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do
– Brene Brown
Are you in the midst of a struggle in your life, and realize that you would like to move toward deeper healing, or maybe make some changes in your life?
Emmaus Counseling was formed out of the belief that God never wastes our pain – and that our painful experiences can be a catalyst toward freedom and true peace.
Choosing a counselor is a very important decision. I invite you to let me accompany you on a journey toward healing and transformation.
Please call for a free phone consultation – to see if we would be a good fit to journey together for a while.
Deborah L. Smith, M.A., LPC, CPCS
Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor
Debbie completed her undergraduate work at the University of Florida in 1992, and then moved to Chicago to obtain her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College, graduating in 1994. While in Chicago, Debbie worked in residential settings, and with multi-agency involved families and teens. She then directed the counseling center at North Park University in Chicago. Following a move to Georgia in 1998, Debbie worked at Perimeter Church in Johns Creek, and began a private practice in Roswell. While her kids were small, Debbie took time off from private practice and directed children’s ministry at a local church. She then transitioned back into private practice.
Debbie began providing Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy services in 2016 and moved her practice from Roswell to Milton in 2018, where she has an office practice as well as an equine practice.
Debbie believes that we need to take care of our whole selves – our physical, psychological, relational and spiritual health – in order to be whole and mature. Her counseling approach is shaped by her training and experience, as well as growth through struggle in her own life.
Debbie works with a wide range of emotional, relational and spiritual issues, and has a special interest in teens, trauma recovery, codependency recovery, ACOA issues, anxiety, depression and loss.
When she is not in her office, Debbie can be found biking on the Greenway, working with horses, or watching college football or basketball games. She has been married since 1994 and has 3 children.
